Tags<\/strong>\u00a0can also help users better navigate your site. \u00a0A tag is a keyword that describes some or all of the content of a post, and a post may have several different tags. \u00a0Similar to categories, tags will group posts together with similarly tagged posts. \u00a0Tags can also be displayed in a \u201ctag cloud.\u201d \u00a0A tag cloud is a visual representation of the tags on your site, where tags that are most often assigned to posts appear larger in text size (and vice versa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Categories vs. Tags<\/strong>: A common way of explaining the difference between categories and tags is that categories are similar to the table of contents for a book, whereas tags are more like the index. Categories tend to be broader, and tags are more specific. Only admins can create categories, but authors can create tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. You can add categories by going to your site Dashboard and clicking\u00a0Posts > Categories<\/strong>\u00a0in the left-hand menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. On the following screen, assign a name to your new category and click Add New Category<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also optionally assign a \u201cslug\u201d for your category and\/or a \u201cparent\u201d category. The slug is what appears in the URL for the category archive page, and will be automatically generated from the category name if you don\u2019t change the slug.\u00a0 For more information about assigning slugs and\/or parent categories, click\u00a0Help > Overview > Documentation on Categories<\/strong>\u00a0at the top right-hand corner of this same screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. You can assign a category to a post on your site by creating a new post or editing an existing post. You\u2019ll find categories in the\u00a0Document settings<\/strong>\u00a0sidebar panel. Be sure you\u2019re viewing the Document rather than Block tab, and if you don\u2019t see the settings sidebar, click the\u00a0gear icon<\/strong>\u00a0at the top of the page, to the right of the Publish button. To add a category, check the box next to the appropriate category in the\u00a0Categories<\/strong>\u00a0section.\u00a0 You can also add categories here, by clicking\u00a0Add New Category<\/strong>\u00a0at the bottom of the Categories section. When you\u2019re finished with the post, click\u00a0Publish<\/strong>, and the category will be assigned to your post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. To edit a post category, edit the post, make any necessary changes to the category, and click Publish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. To assign a tag to a post on your site, go to your site Dashboard and click\u00a0Posts > Add New<\/strong>. \u00a0You\u2019ll find tags in the\u00a0Document settings<\/strong>\u00a0sidebar panel.
