I\u2019ve returned to college (after working in game development and visual design) to study sociology because it has always been an interest of mine. I have literally been a bonafide armchair sociologist since middle school. For every social issue presented in the news, little Marky had a \u201cwhy\u201d question or \u201cwhat if\u201d scenario. In my home, \u201cShut up Mark\u201d became a common refrain shortly after the nightly TV news program started&#8230; Even as I grew older and my career and life progressed, my continual <em>naive sociologizing<\/em> remained a constant.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides studying sociology here at CUNY SPS, I plan to continue on to a graduate sociology or data science program and ultimately engage in social research using quantitative methods \u2013 hopefully leveraging my technology and design background. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Mark Nelson, and I am a sociology major here at CUNY SPS in my final year of study.
