With your script\/storyboard ready, let\u2019s start producing the video.\u00a0 We borrow the term Production from filmmaking.\u00a0 It refers to the process of making or creating media. With a combination of hardware and software, there are several ways to produce a video.\u00a0 As the creator, you must decide what combination will be best for you. NOTE: Video production is an iterative process, building your media skills takes time.\u00a0 If you get stuck, please reach out to OFDIT for assistance (<a href=\"mailto:FacultySupport@cuny.sps.edu\">FacultySupport@cuny.sps.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>Production Hardware to Consider<\/h3>\n<p>What will you use to record?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Webcam video connected to your computer<\/li>\n<li>Built-in camera on your mobile device<\/li>\n<li>Natural light or lamp lights<\/li>\n<li>Microphone, plugged into your device or built in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pro Tip:<\/strong> Audio is the most important element of your video. It&#8217;s integrated into Blackboard and fully supported by the Media Team at SPS.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cuny.zoom.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zoom<\/a> &#8211; Also a good tool for recording yourself and your screen.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/sps-faculty-community-hub\/screencastomatic-pro\/\">ScreenPal (formerly Screencast-o-Matic)<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; webcam and screen recording software available to CUNY SPS faculty.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuny.edu\/about\/administration\/offices\/cis\/technology-services\/camtasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Camtasia<\/a> \u2013 a professional grade webcam\/screen recording software available to all CUNY faculty.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuny.edu\/about\/administration\/offices\/cis\/technology-services\/snagit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snagit<\/a> \u2013 a professional software program that allows you to create, edit and share screen captures and recordings available to all CUNY faculty.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/sps-faculty-community-hub\/voicethread-at-sps\/\">VoiceThread<\/a> &#8211; asynchronous video discussion board with a media focus available to CUNY SPS faculty.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/sps-faculty-community-hub\/use-multimedia-tools\/\">Virtual Meeting Tools<\/a> &#8211; Zoom, Collaborate Ultra, or Microsoft Teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OFDIT offers a synchronous training session on best practices when recording from home.\u00a0 Below is a past session. Having your students see and hear you can create a sense of connection, build rapport and spark excitement for learning through seeing your passion for the discipline. No matter if you\u2019re trying this for the first time or have been creating media for a while, this session we\u2019ll give you tools to make your videos look more professional.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re ready make your video!\u00a0 The first time you make a video it won&#8217;t be perfect.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t let perfection get in the way of progress.\u00a0 It&#8217;s ok to have mistakes.\u00a0 A video will add your presence to the class.\u00a0 An imperfect video is more valuable than no video.<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s the Next Step?<\/h3>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve made your recording, continue on to the Post-Production section for help polishing and sharing your creation.
