In this edition of our newsletter, you\u2019ll find a range of professional opportunities, including UDL communities to join, OpenLab support drop-in sessions, calls for conference proposals, and a CUNY-wide series on adult learning. Wishing you a great start to the semester and a happy autumn!<\/p>\n<hr class=\"ttfmake-hr\" style=\"border-style: double;border-top-width: 6px\" \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003366\">UDL Collaborative: September Meeting<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Happy fall from the facilitators of the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/sps-udl-collaborative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UDL Collaborative<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">! We&#8217;re a <\/span><b>community of practice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> bringing together faculty and staff to explore <\/span><b>accessibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Universal Design for Learning <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">principles. Whether you&#8217;re new to UDL or experienced, we discuss best practices, answer questions, and brainstorm solutions for inclusive learning environments. Participants will review the principles of UDL and explore how OEP can help reduce accessibility barriers for all learners, including those with disabilities. Participants will also learn about <\/span><b>best accessibility practices in online courses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, including identifying and fixing common accessibility issues. For their workshop project, participants will complete an inventory of one of their courses from a UDL perspective and create a plan for implementing UDL principles and open practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligible faculty participants will be <\/span><b>compensated with 7 NTA hours upon successful completion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of the workshop. <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/8D3JbFdowkt13VhW8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Registration<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is open through <\/span><b>Tuesday, October 14<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If you have Group work in your class, this is a good time to <\/span><b>review the enrollment and associations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> so that things are in order. Brightspace allows you to change the sort order so that the roster appears the way you prefer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The default setting typically lists learners alphabetically by last name (A to Z). But many of us have yet to unlock the powerful features inside it.\u00a0 In this session, participants will learn how to access the robust analytics showing us who watched a video and for how long.\u00a0 They will see how faculty can leverage the power of a low-stakes quiz with the in-video quiz tool.\u00a0 A video quiz can be automatically graded and mapped to your grade book.
