The new federal deadline is April 2027, but New York State has its own deadline which remains the same, January 2027. While the federal extension offers welcome flexibility, it does not change our long\u2011standing commitment at CUNY SPS to accessible course design and content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OFDIT continues to work with programs and faculty to ensure that all <\/span><b>syllabus documents follow best practices for accessibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, including logical reading order, appropriate use of the headings formatting tools, alt-text for images, and accessibly formatted tables. This often leads to workarounds like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manually adjusting the overall grade<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adding explanatory comments to justify a different score<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Confusing students when the rubric total doesn\u2019t match the final grade<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>But here\u2019s the good news: you <\/b><b><i>can<\/i><\/b><b> assign a specific score within a range.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #003366\"><small><b>What Actually Happens<\/b><\/small><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you select a rubric level:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brightspace <\/span><b>automatically assigns the highest value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in that range (e.g., selecting \u201c3\u20134\u201d defaults to <\/span><b>4 points<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #003366\"><small><b>How to Override the Score<\/b><\/small><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To assign a more precise score within the range:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Select the desired rubric level<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Click directly inside the score box<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Manually enter your preferred value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> within the allowed range (e.g., change 4 \u2192 3)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Press Enter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
