Instructors can add bonus items, allow extra points, and set up the grade book to exceed 100%. This guide will walk you through these options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Creating Bonus Items in the Grade Book<\/summary>\n<p>Bonus items are a way to offer extra credit without affecting the core grading structure, meaning students who don\u2019t complete these items aren\u2019t penalized. Note that Bonus Points will immediately be reflected in the Calculated Final Grade displayed to students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a bonus item in the grade book:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your course, select <strong>Grades<\/strong> from the navigation bar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next page, go to the <strong>Manage Grades<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdUN9_kmvKtuYEq9HQqzK-8PZG5WW5LKFiyNfB7YS_egV2XTPc9KLSI5o09YsltfojD2Pr03I909A8weRbr0FVpIc9osaEY-wsFTZccQbXcWoNfq0cli8l7IqWzXTOHz0YJzm2jZgW6UBYtTXlnuHuqkc3I?key=usczJngS2GAvQ3_agMx_z7v-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>New<\/strong> and select <strong>Item <\/strong>from the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXfD6mTPzTKv6ZJFHEHHNXZLCqKK-sAzTSWfhlQz6ZHrC3pD9xfvfoVAp7w4RfZIimHq_rMn80cBMufSp4uJhv-Q14QyooPrRJ9DUjC7cxnzKZthe9udrXGKmRCjuJGuX2ad1VwEwSaevm-r-sN49f08EG7C?key=usczJngS2GAvQ3_agMx_z7v-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose the Grade Item Type. Numeric grades are the most common.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXf1b-5dRsKp1re8z9JDsy5u6nI9lCObrJgE8aZJx9GUJDK2S9sU7oGzZS3nEkwSrzsNvi2dzbMKGPx3kuaJik-eu9e8lU6Wj5U_cooqjDhQw-xGlcaRRwrnTaQoeMFXPrPZTQpq_g?key=usczJngS2GAvQ3_agMx_z7v-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note: A <strong>Numeric<\/strong>, <strong>Selectbox<\/strong>, or <strong>Pass\/Fail<\/strong> grade type must be chosen if you\u2019d like the Grade Item to be used to calculate the final grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Name the item and set the maximum points. Check the <strong>Bonus <\/strong>box.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXedsdE4XZeuNkaCgzoPifSt8OXPRQiYN9jBmRXQjtYdFKgAKlCaYyReW8H3MMxsUXy4KDADU5IoKobAHrm09w1ZO5HFIA-v_6zyCTy0ic_3Fp6HqCNvaUZ_U9Mn42Pk0qgQ4MdQlteRxtwmYqIGwJB-bwxg?key=usczJngS2GAvQ3_agMx_z7v-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Checking the bonus box ensures that the item\u2019s points are only added if completed and won\u2019t count against students who don\u2019t complete it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Save your changes before exiting. To enable grades that go over this limit (e.g., when bonus points are included) follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your course, select <strong>Grades<\/strong> from the navigation bar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next page, go to the <strong>Manage Grades<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the <strong>Manage Grades<\/strong> tab, locate the <strong>Final Calculated Grade<\/strong>.
