This function can be particularly useful when instructors want to prevent a student’s work from being included in Turnitin’s plagiarism detection database, such as when allowing students to submit a draft and check their similarity score before making a final submission. The database checks for similarities across various sources, including previously submitted student papers.

Key Features

Paper Submission Without Storage: When this feature is enabled, the student’s submission is checked for similarity but is not stored in the Turnitin database. This ensures the paper will not be used as a reference for future plagiarism checks.

Similarity Reports Visible to Students: Although students do not store the paper, they can still view their similarity reports, allowing them to check for any potential issues with their work.

Access Control: Instructors can choose to use this setting on specific assignments when they need to prevent storing students’ work for specific reasons, such as confidentiality or compliance with institutional guidelines.

Use Case Scenarios

Special Assignments: For assignments that involve student drafts, practice submissions, or revisions, instructors may wish to disable storage to avoid these papers being checked against future submissions. This ensures that students’ earlier drafts do not become part of the plagiarism detection database, allowing them to submit revised versions without being flagged for similarities.

How to Enable “Do Not Store Submitted Papers”

In your course, go to the assignment tab and select the assignment to edit.

Click Evaluation & Feedback on the right.
