If you\u2019re a CUNY School of Professional Studies student and want to share your work with our community, we\u2019d love to hear from you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#Ready-to-Submit?\">Click here to fill out the form or scroll to the bottom! <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guidelines<strong>:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please send fill out the form at the bottom of this page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In your pitch, please provide a detailed explanation of what your story or multimedia project would entail, including a possible headline and lede or first paragraph. If you already have a completed article or project, feel free to send it over.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we are open to various topics, we only ask that you adhere to a writing style that prioritizes clarity, brevity, consistency, and of course, accuracy. If you\u2019re interested in journalism as a career and want to use your article as a clip for future job applications, we suggest adhering to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/owl.purdue.edu\/owl\/subject_specific_writing\/journalism_and_journalistic_writing\/ap_style.html\">AP Stylebook<\/a><\/strong>, though it\u2019s not necessary to be published in <em>The Kiosk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the stories we\u2019re most interested in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General CUNY SPS news&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Announcements for upcoming CUNY SPS club events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage of past club events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Op-eds or personal essays on student life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty or student profiles, or stories covering university departments and efforts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these topics being of most interest to us, we believe that everyone\u2019s voices, perspectives, and experiences have the potential to make an impact. While these tools offer ways to speed up tasks or better understand material, we must maintain our integrity as authors. Let\u2019s use these tools to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2025\/10\/ai-presents-challenges-to-journalism-but-also-opportunities\/\">improve our writing<\/a> and research skills so that we can stay ahead of the curve, but use them responsibly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kiosk allows limited use of generative AI tools where the writer must critically evaluate and fact-check all AI suggestions. Since these tools have a tendency to hallucinate, it is essential that the written work is evaluated to avoid misrepresentation, plagiarism, and infringement of journalistic ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;So we ask the following of our fellow students writers:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student is always fully responsible for the <strong>accuracy<\/strong>, <strong>originality<\/strong>, and <strong>integrity <\/strong>of all published work.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI tools are permitted only to support grammar, light editing, and clarity of the work. It is not to be used as a ghost writer.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any use of AI should be disclosed to editors\u200b and noted to the readers for transparency. The editor will have the final say before publishing.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Allowed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Brainstorming topics, angles, or questions.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Outlining possible structures for a piece.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Revising and editing sentences for grammar and clarity.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Image generation for the article<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not Allowed&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Submitting 100% AI\u2011generated work as if they were fully written by the student.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Using AI to imitate another person\u2019s style or identity.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Helpful Prompts&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AI tools are large language models that generate unique responses based on the specific context of a conversation. These prompts are processed differently every time, where the output can differ for each student. In any case, you can always count on The Kiosk\u2019s editors for their support during the writing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Prompt for Copyediting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProofread this article for grammar, spelling, and punctuation only. Do not change my meaning, facts, or tone. Then, list the main types of errors you fixed so I can learn from them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Prompt for Clarity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGive me feedback on the flow between paragraphs. Where should I add transitions or cut sentences to improve pacing and coherence? Only offer suggestions. However, we also welcome multimedia submissions, including photography, videography, podcasts, and more. Depending on the content, we will also accept longer articles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Is it necessary to follow the AP Stylebook for submissions?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>It is not necessary to follow the AP Stylebook for submissions, but encouraged. Our editorial team will review your writing before publication, providing you with an opportunity to receive feedback.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Do I need to be a current CUNY SPS student to submit?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>While we mainly encourage current CUNY SPS students to submit, we are open to alumni contributing if the topic is relevant to their time at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Does The Kiosk offer any compensation or recognition for published work?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>Currently, we do not offer monetary compensation. However, we are working on a system to allow students to receive credits for their contributions. Publishing for <i>The Kiosk<\/i> can also serve as valuable experience on your resume for career development.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Does The Kiosk offer any resources or support for students unfamiliar with journalistic writing or multimedia production?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>Yes, we hold open editorial meetings every week each semester to discuss story ideas and give feedback to writers. If you\u2019re interested, reach out to us via <a href=\"mailto:thekiosk@spsmail.cuny.edu\">email<\/a> to get information about meeting invites and times.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Can I submit content that I previously wrote?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>We accept original work that <strong>hasn\u2019t <\/strong>been published elsewhere and make case by case exceptions to self published pieces. <\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>How frequently does The Kiosk publish new content, and are there specific deadlines for submissions?<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>We aim to publish at least 2 articles a week. There are no general submissions deadlines, but we will communicate with you directly about when we\u2019re looking for your submission.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator
