Muslim and non-Muslim students gathered to celebrate, break their fasts, and connect with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A lot of new students showed up and interacted with each other,\u201d Parshotam Lal, CUNY SPS&#8217; student life coordinator, noted. \u201cPeople brought their kids and families. It was such a nice event, especially because iftar is about the enjoyment of sharing a meal together and that&#8217;s kind of a beautiful thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2-400x267.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-2-800x534.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, held in the CUNY SPS building on March 21, had a diverse spread of food, from chips and soda to catering from Shahjalal Food and Domino&#8217;s Pizza. As part of the tradition for Muslims breaking their fast, dates were also provided for the iftar. &#8220;There were a lot of non-Muslims that showed up, but they respected the students who were fasting and waited to eat with everyone,&#8221; Lal explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3-400x266.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/openlab.sps.cuny.edu\/the-kiosk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/06\/sasu-iftar-3-800x533.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Shihnaz Awan, a BA in Psychology student, shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating, &#8220;The iftar was great! I brought my two daughters and they had a lot of fun. It was nice being able to come on campus and seeing what it&#8217;s like. My kids\u2019 favorite part was the group prayer.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another student from the MA in Disability Studies program added, &#8220;I love that they dedicated a separate room for women to pray. That was really thoughtful and inclusive.
