South Asian Students Mark Ramadan with 2025 Iftar Event<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On March 13, as the sun began to set over New York City, CUNY SPS came alive with warmth, laughter, and the rich aroma of traditional dishes. Students, families, faculty, and friends gathered in person and virtually for the annual Iftar, an event that was not only a celebration of community and faith to break the fast of Ramadan, but also a powerful demonstration of collective generosity while raising funds for CUNY SPS scholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third annual Iftar was hosted by the South Asian Student Union<\/a>, they welcomed guests from both within and outside the CUNY SPS community. This was the first SASU event that had an entry for Non-CUNY guests. Their contributions would go directly to scholarships to support future students. The evening highlighted how cultural celebrations can be harnessed to meet real community needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe atmosphere was bustling with lots of different people! There was a sense of community, and not one person was left out of a conversation,\u201d said a SASU member. \u201cIt felt so wholesome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the food and festivities, the heart of the evening centered on unity and purpose. The Ramadan presentation offered insight into the spiritual significance of the holy month, reminding attendees of the values of compassion, reflection, and giving. \u201cIt gave a sense of what Islam and Ramadan are about\u201d mentioned an SPS student. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stations set up for games and journaling encouraged engagement, though it was the henna station that drew the largest crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As prayers were held, even minor technical hiccups such as microphone issues, on the women\u2019s side didn\u2019t dampen the spirit. The attendees made it work, highlighting that even when faced with a challenge, togetherness will bring people closer to the meaning of Ramadan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Events like Iftar<\/a> are more than just cultural celebrations; they are investments in the future. They demonstrate the power of community to come together not only in faith and festivity, but also in support of educational equity. The success of the evening reflects the values that define CUNY SPS inclusion, empowerment, and a commitment to giving every student the chance to thrive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
