Dear readers,
As the Fall 2023 semester draws to a close, the editors of The Kiosk would like to thank all the students, staff, and faculty that made our stories and workshops possible!
We’ve had a busy semester covering changes at CUNY SPS, from the appointment of Dean Braverman to the school-wide transition from Blackboard to D2L Brightspace as our online learning platform. We’ve also kept up with events like Club Week, new Parent Club podcast episodes, and Student Association meetings, to name a few!
Most recently, The Kiosk also held a contest for short fiction stories, which saw plenty of submissions from aspiring student writers and poets. Ana Maria Londono Leudo’s “Red Suspenders” won first place, followed by “Dear Marley” by Samantha Funk, and “The Young Student Who Overcame His Fear at San Diego Cemetery” by Tasqui Guayasamin in third place. Last but not least, Maliha Zaman’s poem, “Fear of the Unknown,” claimed the top spot in our special poetry category. Each piece was unique and delightful to read!
We also held our Fall 2023 Journalism Workshop Series, which focused on the basics of student journalism, followed by one on the anatomy of a news story.
Lastly, The Kiosk is always open to new student writers! We’re on the lookout for CUNY SPS news, personal essays and opinion pieces, as well as multimedia pieces, which can include everything from podcasts to videos to photojournalism. If you’d like to contribute, check out our submission guidelines.
The Kiosk will return on the first day of classes in Spring 2024. Good luck to everyone still working on finals, and happy holidays!
