This guide provides step-by-step instructions for sending emails using the Classlist tool within a Brightspace course. Whether you’re looking to email all learners in your course or contact individual students, this guide will walk you through the process. 

Email All Learners in a Course
  1. Select Tools from the navigation bar on the course page and click Classlist from the dropdown.
  1. On the Classlist page, select the Email Classlist button. 
  1. All learners will be listed on the Email Classlist page. Select Send Email
  1. A pop-up will appear to compose your email. Press Send when complete.

Note: All learners will appear in the Bcc field of the email. Learners will not see any other learner’s names or email addresses. The To field will appear blank, which is perfectly fine. It is not necessary to enter an address in the To field. Instructors will still receive a copy of the email automatically in their Brightspace-associated email, as they are included as members of the Classlist. If instructors wish to send a copy of the email to a personal email address (such as Gmail), they can manually enter that address in the To or Bcc field.

Email an Individual Student
  1. On the Classlist page, click the chevron icon next to the student’s name and select Send Email from the dropdown menu.
  1. A pop-up will appear to compose an email message. Select Send to complete.

Email a Specific Group of Learners
  1. Select the box to the left of their name and select the Email icon at the top of the table.
  1. A pop-up box will appear to compose the message. Select Send to complete.

Check Your Sent Mail
  1. Select Tools from the navigation bar on the course page and click Email from the dropdown.
  1. From the Email page, click Sent Email button.
  1. On the next page, you’ll see the full history of your sent emails. By clicking on the email subject, you can view the detailed content.

  1. From the Email page, click Settings in the top right corner.
  1. On the Email Settings page, you can edit your email signature. Click Save after finishing editing.

Note: If you try to send emails directly from the Email tool, the email addresses will not populate automatically. You must type them manually or send the emails via the Classlist.
