Set up Group Assignments in Brightspace

Introduction

If you haven’t created groups in Brightspace yet, please refer to this guide on how to create groups. This guide assumes that groups have already been created, and describes how to create a group assignment or convert an existing individual assignment into a group assignment.

How to Create Group Assignments

Follow the steps below to create the assignment using the Assignments tool and link it to pre-existing groups within the Assignments tool:

1. From the course navigation bar, select ‘Activities’ > ‘Assignments’ from the dropdown menu.

2. You can choose one of the following options:

• Create a new group assignment by clicking the New Assignment button.

OR

• Locate an existing assignment that you’d like to convert into a group assignment, click the chevron icon next to its title, and select “Edit Assignment”.

3. On the Edit Assignment page, click ‘Submissions & Completion’ on the right, select ‘Group Assignment’ under Assignment type, and select the Group Category from the dropdown menu.

Note: you will need to have the groups [category] ready already to use this option. If you haven’t already created groups in Brightspace, please refer to How to Create Groups.

Configure other Assignment settings. Once you are satisfied with all the settings, click “Save and Close”.
