Adding a Hyperlink in Blackboard

Hyperlinks are a useful tool that allow Blackboard users to access a website, YouTube video, PDF, etc. simply by clicking on linked text. The text that you use to create a hyperlink should provide your readers with a clear description of where they will go once they click on the link; it should not just read “click here” or include the entire web address. For example, you would not state “Fill out the user survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/SAMPLE/.” Rather, “Please fill out the online user survey.” This practice also ensures your hyperlinks are ADA accessible by allowing screen readers to now scan for links in your course.

To add a clickable hyperlink to text in your course, highlight the text with your mouse and click on the “Hyperlink” icon in the toolbar.

In the pop-up window, enter (or cut & paste) the link’s web address into the “Link Path” field. Under “Target,” click on drop-down to select “Open in New Window. Then, enter a title. When finished, click “Insert” to save.

Note that there is also the option to link to an attachment by clicking on “Browse My Computer,” “Browse Content Collection,” or by dragging a file from your computer to the Attach File area.
