CUNY SPS Faculty Fellowship: Teaching and AI

May – August 2025

Description

As AI use has become increasingly prevalent in teaching and learning, faculty are considering how to adapt their courses to harness its potential while maintaining academic integrity and fostering deep learning. CUNY SPS faculty participants in this fellowship will examine AI’s impact on pedagogy, assessment, and student engagement. Participants will review current practices and develop a project to integrate or manage AI use in their courses or programs. While some projects may incorporate the use of AI tools in the classroom, other potential projects could modify coursework to account for AI’s impact, create materials around the appropriate uses of AI, educate students about AI, or develop methods for faculty to use AI for teaching, among other possibilities. Participants will also share their project experiences with other faculty and staff to help establish a collaborative learning community for further exploration of AI in education.

Outcomes

  • Development of a new or revised course module, activity, or assessment; educational or policy materials for programs, or other pedagogical applications of AI.
  • Piloting of the project in the Fall 2025 semester.
