What are Instant Captions with VoiceThread?
We are very excited to announce that our VoiceThread subscription now offers instant captions for audio and video recordings as a way to make your VoiceThread content accessible to as many users as possible, including those with hearing disabilities.
Every audio or video recording you newly create in VoiceThread will be captioned automatically; you don’t need to do anything to initiate the process. As soon as you save your recording, the captioning process will begin. Captions should appear in 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the length of your recording.

Getting Started
Viewing Captions in VoiceThread
- Click on a VoiceThread to view it.
- Click on the CC icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Next, select On to turn the captions on. It might take a few minutes for the captions to be generated.
- The captions will display on the left side for comments and in the center area for content such as added videos.
Editing Captions in VoiceThread (Click link for Step-by-Step Instructions)
Once a caption has been added to a slide or comment in VoiceThread, you can always edit it to make changes or correct any mistakes. To begin, click on the “CC” at the bottom of the comment box, and then click on “Edit Captions” near the bottom of the pop-up window.
